Transit is already a fixture in the city, and among those who work, live or do both in it, the dozens of space configurations, simple features and relatively low operating costs have kept sales strong since Ford introduced the model By 2020, Ford will be renewing cargo and passenger transit vans with new power-trains, improved safety and high-quality options

Of the three engine variants of the current Transit, only one - the 3.5-liter Eco Boost V-6 with two turbochargers and 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque will
remain on board for 2020. The 3.7-liter V-6 of the base is being replaced by a 3.5-liter V-6 with port and direct injection. It's similar to the 3.3-liter V-6 in the F-150, which makes 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the diesel in-line Five, the 2020 Transit lends the 2.0-liter sequential turbocharged diesel inline-four from the Ranger overseas bird of prey. All engines are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which offers a wider spread for lower fuel consumption.

Inside, the Transit, with its myriad of angled buttons and small displays, is modeled on Focus's latest interior design to create a more elegant, upright look that matches the 2020 Explorer. Most notable is the freestanding 8.0-inch touch screen, which runs the Sync 3 infotainment system on a brand-new dashboard that features an elegant (for a commercial van) range of stereo and climate controls. Apple Car-play and Android Auto features are standard, though we're curious how well they can be used on the standard 4.0-inch non-touch display. A new 4.2-inch display in a reviewed instrument panel is also included. Automatic emergency forward braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and automatic high beam are now standard in any disguise, while adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and automatic parking are optional. Ford claims that the handles and seat covers are longer lasting.

The exterior gets a hexagonal grille that bends in the middle and does not bend inward near the bumper. The chrome rods were reduced from six to three. An open grid grille is standard on Eco boost models to improve cooling, while optional xenon LED flood lights are a welcome improvement over halogens. An electric sliding door is available for both cargo and passenger models.
