Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR Concept Inspired By The 2009 Avatar Movie

The first and so far only Avatar film was released in 2009. The next one is scheduled to be released in December 2022. However, the lack of a current film binding did not prevent Mercedes-Benz from presenting a comprehensive concept, electric concept car, which is inspired in the film by the fictional creatures that live on the planet Pandora.

The Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is a chic beast. The robust, exaggerated wheels (which can light up in different colors) dominate the profile and are wrapped around clear, oval glass for doors and windows in
the middle. The result is a new version of the One Bow design language from Mercedes that was previously used in the Vision EQS concept. Mercedes developed the concept car in collaboration with avatar director James Cameron and his company Lightstorm Entertainment.

The AVTR has an animal and living environment in general. The fastback-ish rear is covered with 33 reptile-scale mobile panels. Mercedes says they are supposed to imitate an animal that extends their hair or fur. Strips of light flow through the entire vehicle, intended to remind the viewer of a neural network. The car is less a machine and more a living creature, said Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Directors of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, when he introduced the AVTR (you pronounce the letters independently and mean Advanced Vehicle).

One of the ways in which the concept almost fuses the human being with the vehicle is through its biometric connection controls. There is no steering wheel, just a "multifunctional control element" that recognizes the person who drives when he puts the palm of it. Your palm can also become a space for the car to reach by projecting a menu that then responds to the movements of your hand.

The front and rear axles can be turned in the same direction or in opposite directions, allowing the AVTR to move laterally at an angle of approximately 30 degrees.

Källenius said the concept is intended to broaden people's ideas about how a car can be far, far away in the future. The Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR, he explained, is intended to arouse people's imagination, as well as the best science fiction movies.

In addition to animal references, the concept is full of innovative ideas. There is a compostable 110 kilowatt-hour battery made with graphene-based organic cell chemistry that does not require rare earth minerals or metals. The interior is covered with sustainable materials such as vegan "leather" and the rapidly growing rattan.
